Rare Thonet arm chair, model 511, from around 1904. This model was a part of the 1904 Thonet catalog so it was designed and produced around that period. The model has no known designer but it's very clear that it took a lot of inspiration from the Wiener Werkstätte movement in Austria that was happening around this time. Thonet also worked with several of the leading figures of that moment including Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser so the similarities are of no surprise. The bent wood frame has a dark red stain with very honest and original patina that can only be achieved when in use over a very long period of time. The stain is most likely original but could also have been redone a very long time ago at an early stage. It's still very sturdy and not wobbly at all. The seat has a striped pattern coming from being made of two different wood types that have been pressed together to create that expression. A true museum or collectors piece. Good and honest used original condition with normal ware and patina consistent with age and use.
